Protocol
"On the administrative staff of every university, college, and similar institution there is (or should be) someone who is responsible for putting the institutions best foot forward on public occasions. Among these are receptions, lectures, dinners, convocations, the annual commencement, and the infrequent installation of a new president. On some campuses there is no central office for such work-which suffers accordingly. No person with other primary responsibilities should undertake to manage one of these public occasions with one hand while coping with his or her regular duties with the other... the work can be organized in such a way that it runs smoothly and rebounds to the glory of the institution, provided there is one central office handling it."
